Landon Derosier from the Moose Jaw Mallards had a pair of hits Sunday against Alameda in Baseball Regina Bantam AAA action.
However when one of the other two aspects of their game went off the rails Sunday it wasn't pretty.
The Mallards used strong pitching and solid defence to beat Melville 6-2 Saturday in Bantam AAA baseball action. Sunday their defence had some late-inning struggles as Alameda pulled away for a 15-7 win.
"The pitching and the fielding has been good and the hitting has been meh. Once we go three-for-three with all of those we'll be all right," said Mallards coach Dave Helland. "We just have to get it all together at once now."
The Mallards are 1-2 in Baseball Regina Bantam AAA action.
Helland acknowledges that it's early in the season, but he's been pleased with how his team has been playing.
"We've been good up until the fifth inning of this game," Helland said. "We've had two bad innings all year so far and it cost us today. We've been playing pretty well."

The visitors had a 6-5 lead heading into the fifth inning when the Mallards defence let them down.
Errors mental and physical led to a five-run inning for Alameda who hail from a collection of towns in the province's south east corner. They added four more runs in the sixth inning.
"It's little things. It's missing the cut off. It's going to the plate and standing there and mentally being struck out before you even get up there," Helland said. "It's early. We have 40 games to go."
Reece Helland hit a solo home run for the Mallards in the third inning.
Brenden McCubbing had an RBI double and Landon Derosier was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

The Mallards only managed six hits, but they made them count as they also used five walks to help key the offence.
"Our pitching and our defence has been bang on, but we've been struggling at the plate so far," said Helland who felt that some of their younger players were adjusting to their first taste of AAA baseball and the speed of the pitching.
Jake Winowich was 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of runs for the Mallards. McCubbing drove in a run as well. Reece Helland earned the win on the mound.
